14 days/14 working days?

long story, don't want to bore peeps so will cut story short.

currently in dispute with employer, they sent letter which stated reply within 14 days.
my understanding was that meant 14 working days as the offices are closed at weekends,
replied accordingly within 14 working days, can they dispute this?
which i think they are trying to do
any help/advice appreciated.

Doesn't 14 working days seem odd? 2 work weeks and 4 days?

Anyway, if its working days it will always state working days, if it says 14 days then it means just that.

Just hope the company doesnt try to get you with your mistake there, you can explain your misunderstanding and hope for the best.

Loopholes to what? It would help to give a full outline of the situation, what the letter was regarding and the consequences etc... However unless it states otherwise then 14 days would generally refer to 14 calendar days not 14 working days.

I think 14 days would normally mean 14 days - if it meant working days then I would expect it to say so explicitly.

Also, 14 days = two week whereas 14 working days = 2 weeks and 4/5 of a week, so inherently unlikely.

I think if it had said (say) 10 days then it would have been much more reasonable to interpret that as 10 working days as agains it falls neatly a set, working period.

In the absence of any qualification a day is a calendar day. If you haven't replied within the 14 days and that has disadvantaged you then I think you're on a hiding to nothing to try to argue anything else.

14 days from the date of the letter?
or 14 days from receipt of the letter?
or 14 days from a date specified within the body of the letter?

It may have been clearer if the author of the letter stated '... to respond by close of business on dd/mm/yy'
