Mortgage Application with Halifax for discharged bankrupt

Hi,

I am looking for some advice.

I am a discharged bankrupt and have been discharged past the 6 years mark (7 years now). I have spoken to a couple of independent whole of market financial advisers who have both advised that Halifax have the best deal.

I have a deposit of 5% and will be on the help to buy scheme. I have read that Halifax do not accept bankrupts but my adviser feels that this is not the case.

Should I be worried?

    You should trust your broker.

I do but naturally scared on these kind of things - maybe sometimes there is too much information out there.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

You have acted correctly in engaging a broker.

  • Look at the Halifax's lending criteria.

"The Bankruptcy question should be answered as yes if your customer has had a bankruptcy/IVA/Debt Management Arrangement or Debt Relief Order within the last 6 years or still have an outstanding Bankruptcy Restriction Order"

    Doesn't say they refuse them.

They don't after 6 years. That is why the question is there in that form?

Our OP should trust the broker.

So just thought I would give a quick update.....

I have been advised by my MA that the income has been verified and now the valuation is set for Monday 6th March. According to my MB I have passed all the credit checks and flown through the process. Is this correct? I want to get excited but can't just yet...

    My mortgage is with Halifax

My husband and I got accepted for a mortgage with Halifax 6 months ago. He had been discharged from bankruptcy for 6 months and I had 2 defaults on my credit file from 5 years ago. We got a good mortgage deal. Sounds like you will be fine!
Proud to be dealing with my debts
