  • Week 8: Day 4

Amusing moment last night - was showing DH our progress (just over £1,600 paid off in total) and he said 'it's funny, it really hasn't been very hard or anything!' I laughed and pointed out that it had been easy for him, as I had done all the budgets, planned the food shopping, told him how much he had to spend each weekend and massaged the budgets when he'd overspent. He managed to look slightly embarrassed.

He did redeem himself slightly by getting a 1.8% pay rise. Pretty minimal, but it will add a few quid each month to our budgets.

    To do today:
    1. 10,000 steps
    2. 1hr knitting my dad's birthday socks.
    3. make carrot cake muffins.
    4. make lasagne
    5. clear the ironing mountain (sigh).
    6. make houmous
    7. mend DC3's dressing up costume (current obsession, worn CONSTANTLY)
    8. play a board game with DC1 and 2 while DC3 naps this afternoon.
    9. make candles.

    To do this week:
    1. make candles. PLEASE universe, can you give me enough time to allow this to make it onto my daily list? It would make me happy.
    2. list nursing chair on eb@y. This is going to be to April what The Handbag was to March, isn't it?
    3. knit the first of the pair of my dad's birthday socks.
    4. sort out some more stuff to eb@y next week when I go to visit my parents on the weekend - they have a boxful of stuff that I sorted out about a year ago in their spare room!

My list for today is a bit ambitious! We'll see.

Must be a man thing :rotfl: A few years ago....we had a few debts and I hated it!! I made every effort to get it all paid off and eventually we got there. OH is the one to stick his head in the sand and say live for today, stick it on the card.

He has got better over the years and will now even use a Money off coupon ni a supermarket........something he once would never ever consider!

I still have to keep an eye on him to keep us out of debt.

His thing at the moment is nice holidays....which we can now save for being debt free but he will still book something without being realistic if we can save the money in time and its left to me to stretch the purse strings.

It usually works out though. :D
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60
  • Well today's list clearly was a bit over-ambitious, especially in the face of three children, but I did some stuff...

    To do today:
    1. 10,000 steps. Nope. Got over 5,000 though, which is my ideal minimum.
    2. 1hr knitting my dad's birthday socks. Done!
    3. make carrot cake muffins. Done!
    4. make lasagne. Not done! Need to do this in the morning so we can have it for dinner tomorrow, now I've defrosted the mince.
    5. clear the ironing mountain (sigh). Done! Amazingly.
    6. make houmous. Not done. Again, defrosted a batch of cooked chickpeas, so need to make this tomorrow.
    7. mend DC3's dressing up costume (current obsession, worn CONSTANTLY). Not done. It's hard to muster enthusiasm for a tattered Elsa dress.
    8. play a board game with DC1 and 2 while DC3 naps this afternoon. Done. Bit of a washout, but at least I made the time for them.
    9. make candles. Not done. Shocker.

    To do this week:
    1. make candles. PLEASE universe, can you give me enough time to allow this to make it onto my daily list? It would make me happy.
    2. list nursing chair on eb@y. This is going to be to April what The Handbag was to March, isn't it?

Argh, none of the stuff on this week's list is going to get done! Out all day tomorrow then off to my parents' on Friday lunchtime.
Trying to figure out a whole new life. Trying to figure out a whole new budget.
Divorcing, unclear on final debt total right now, but focusing on building a financial buffer zone.
  • Week 8: Day 5

My list today is just ridiculous. So much to try to do before I go away with the children for 5 days, to visit two sets of people.

Also, DH is staying behind (to save money on train fare home after the weekend, as he has work on Monday) and has offered to spend the entire weekend doing house jobs and I can't think of anything, beyond a good cleaning session! Am trying to think of things that he can get on with.

    To do today:
    1. 10,000 steps.
    2. 1hr knitting my dad's birthday socks.
    3. Make packed lunch to take out today - that should limit spends to a juice for each child and a couple of slices of cake to share.
    4. Make lasagne. Half done already, just need to construct it.
    5. Make houmous.
    6. Make candles.
    7. Pack for time away.

    To do this week:
    1. make candles. PLEASE universe, can you give me enough time to allow this to make it onto my daily list? It would make me happy.
    2. list nursing chair on eb@y. This is going to be to April what The Handbag was to March, isn't it?

Can your DH cook? I'm thinking he could do the houmous and maybe batch cook ahead?

  • Get him to list that bloody chair :p
  • Have weighed DH down with a bit of a list! He won't know what's hit him.

Had a lovely afternoon out with a friend after a stressful morning - keeping on top of the house is such a pain during the holidays, but I find it incredibly stressful when it's ridiculously messy (my standards are not high - I'm talking washing up done, kitchen wiped, toilet bleached, beds made, laundry away, stuff like that). Ended up leaving DC3 screeching at me while I got on with the chores that needed doing, as she just wouldn't settle to anything. She is far more demanding (and LOUD) than the older two - not what I was promised, third children are supposed to just fit in!

    To do today:
    1. 10,000 steps. I really thought I'd do this today. 6,000 done.
    2. 1hr knitting my dad's birthday socks. Not done yet, but planning half an hour of pre-bed knitting.
    3. Make packed lunch to take out today - that should limit spends to a juice for each child and a couple of slices of cake to share. Done.
    4. Make lasagne. Done! Yum, and enough in the freezer for another full family meal.
    5. Make houmous. Done!
    6. Make candles. Do I even need to answer this one?
    7. Pack for time away. Not done. Argh. Manic morning ahead tomorrow.

    To do this week:
    1. make candles. PLEASE universe, can you give me enough time to allow this to make it onto my daily list? It would make me happy.
    2. list nursing chair on eb@y. This is going to be to April what The Handbag was to March, isn't it?

  • Didn't even get on here yesterday, whoops. Was a NSD apart from toll bridge to my parents' house.

Saw some clients today and <drumroll>.... I now have THREE MONTHS worth of salary/business expenses in the bank! I am so pleased to have finally hit this point, it feels like a real milestone. Future business profit will be divided thus:
    15% towards next month's salary
    15% next month +1
    15% next month +2
35% next month +3 (ie working towards a fourth month saved)
    10% debt overpayment
    10% saving for accountant

10% towards accountant will enable me to have the money to pay my accountant slightly earlier, so I can bring forward my tax return date to September, which will hopefully benefit us remortgaging in November (my profit for 16/17 is significantly higher than 15/16).

If I feel I'm not making enough headway into my fourth month's salary/expenses over the next fortnight I'll divide things differently again, so more profit is diverted towards that. Obviously I want to have the fourth month saved before the end of the month so I only dip down to having three full months when I withdraw my salary and expenses on 1st May.

Sorry, that probably makes no sense to anyone except me, but it's good for me to have a record of it!
