Leather Dining Chairs High Back

Dec 2016 4 bought at vast expense look very nice
Jan 2017 cat starts to attack them
February 2017 2 chairs look dreadful
Grr
I was wondering if it would possible to cover the backs - I thought a tailor made cover would protect them but it needs to be a fabric which can be slipped on and can resist cat claws. Canvass? Deck chair fabric? Any ideas anybody? (and dont say get rid of the cat either!!)

Buy some Feliway spray from the local pet store. Apply as directions.
We spent several hundred pounds in last summer's sales on a solid oak table & chairs. Our cat decided they were an ideal set of scratching posts. Two bottles of Feliway later, she doesn't scratch them
She's moved on to destroying the staircase newel posts instead2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

If you measure up the chairs you may find ready made covers on the Internet. Or are you handy with a sewing machine? It might be worth having a look at Pintrest for ideas.
I have 2 cats and several different styles of scratching posts which help, especially if you occasionally rub some catnip into themI also keep a couple of water pistols to hand to remind them that my lovely wooden furniture is a no-no.

My suggestion is to go for inexpensive covers - I'm not sure any covers will be cat resistant so if they start to look tatty, you've not spent a fortune. If you're any good with a sewing machine (or know someone who is!) and depending on your decor, what about making some slip covers (like wedding chair covers) out of dust sheets (new, from somewhere like Screwfix)?0

Rather than cover the chairs which the cat will still scratch, why not tell the cat not the scratch the chairs at all?
You can do this several ways.
Buy Feliway
Squirt the cat with water each time she does it
Make a loud noise each time she does it
She will soon stop doing it.0 -
I have bought 'scratchy boards' for my cats and all of them have loved them.
Some boards come with a sachet of cat nip to draw them inand then they seem to get hooked on it as their scratching point of choice
.

When they've destroyed the top surface (which takes a lot of effort) just flip the insert over for another go.
Even my most destructive villains have moved over to these boards through choice.
You can also get curved designs for cats that like to stretch and claw... or you can prop then up etc.:hello:0 -
Ooh my cat loves to scratch the doormat when he's angry. Otherwise I'm very lucky as he rarely scratches at anything in the house. He must do it outside.
Regarding the chairs, I work in a soft furnishing shop ( including upholstery)and hate the thought of buying nice things then spending money to cover them up. You could recover them in a wool maybe as that doesn't tend to get ruined, but the feliway might be an idea to try so you can still enjoy your chairs and how they look.Grocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)
