Hi all
Just after some advise and apologies if there is a thread somewhere similar.
What is the likelihood of being accepted for a Halifax mortgage with a CCJ?
Any help would be much appreciated as very new to this!

I would be surprised if it declined. You should have a few high street options available to you I would have thought, potentially even better rates than halifax.

  • Thanks for the reassurance ACG :-)

Can I ask why you sound mildly confident? Is it because the CCJ is nearly over? We've sold our house and have had an offer accepted on a new property so I'm panicking that we're going to have to end up renting until the CCJ has cleared!

Good income, not looking to stretch your incomes, a history of mortgage payments and CCJ that is small, a one off and quite old. The only issue is the deposit is a little light, but with everything else I think there is enough in your favour to overcome it.

About 90% of my clients are people who have adverse. You by comparison to what I see on a daily basis are pretty clean.

I know its not a CCJ but my partner had a default on his file for £900 and Halifax accepted us.

They said we could borrow up to £245,000 and we borrowed £230,000.

Funnily enough his default was with Halifax!
  • So it turns out they declined our mortgage. I'm gutted. Despite earning on average £55k p/a for the last 3 years with a clean slate for the last 5 years, it means nothing.

Would you suggest looking with a broker or should we admit defeat and lose the house we've made an offer on? :(

I am rather surprised that they declined you. Did they give you or did your broker give you a reason why?

How old was his default and when did he settle it?
