    £15?

A visitor Oyster Card is £3 plus postage (https://tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/visiting-london/visitor-oyster-card). Then when you arrive get a staff member to put the young person discount on it for you.

The Child Zipcard has a £15 issue fee, then free travel.

That's a totally uncalled for response.
I was trying to help you but you go off on an unjustified* rant.

    Anyway, here's some more help:

Yes the child can use a contactless card but the fare charged will be that for an adult. You do need one contactless payment card for each traveller.

If you don't like this reply either, or you have any comments to make about the lack of information on their website, then address your complaint to:

*where does that £15 figure come from?

From TFL's website - £15 is for the children's ZipCard. Since we'll be in town in two days, postal options will not work.

You must be unduly sensitive - it has to do with practicalities, not faffing around trying interminable options. I have discovered I can use Apple Watch as one device, and the linked credit card for the child - who will be paying adult rates.

It is the acceptance of this for casual travellers I find annoying.

I really cannot understand why you couldn't be bothered to read my earlier response in its entirety.
I did not, neither did anyone else, suggest that getting a child's zipcard was appropriate.

As I explained earlier, that TfL webpage describes how to get a child discount added to a bog standard Oyster card. All that can be done at any tube station - should take only a few minutes.

Yes, pay full fare for the child with your overpriced phone if you like.
To use your words - "I'd hardly Moneysaving!"

Zip Cards are intended for locals. As a visitor you don't need a Zip card as you will be here less than 14 days.

    To quote the TfL site

    "
    Young Visitor discount

If you're visiting London and travelling with children aged 11 to 15 who haven't got a Zip Oyster photocard, you can still benefit from reduced rate travel for them. You can get a discount set on an Oyster or Visitor Oyster card that will allow them to pay as you go at half adult-rate for up to 14 days.
This discount is called the Young Visitor discount and can be set by a member of staff at:
    • Any Tube station
    • TfL Rail station ticket offices
    • Visitor Centres (except Gatwick Airport South Terminal)
    • Victoria National Rail station ticket office
You and your child must be together when asking for the Young Visitor discount to be set.
You don't need proof of age or identity, but you might be asked to confirm the child's age. One adult can get the Young Visitor discount set for up to four children.
The Young Visitor discount gives the following for up to 14 days:
    • Half adult-rate pay as you go fares and daily caps on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground, TfL Rail and most National Rail services
    • Half adult-rate on Emirates Air Line and Thames Clipper River Bus services
It doesn't allow free travel and discounted Travelcard and Bus & Tram Pass season tickets can't be added. After 14 days the discount expires and the Oyster card reverts to charging adult-rate fares."
