Holiday Allowance

Looking for some advice please. Last year I moved from a 5 day week to a 3 day week job share to avoid redundancy. Accordingly, my holiday allowance was cut to 3/5ths. However I have ended up working a 4 day week on average since the changes took place. I tend to work any extra days that are available because I need the money. However it grates somewhat that I'm denied the same holiday allowance enjoyed by other colleagues who are on a contractual 4 day week.

Prior to the change in my contract, HR advised me that, should I end up being asked to work lots of extra days, then the holiday allowance should be reviewed accordingly. Unfortunately this was never put in writing, and when this was subsequently approached it was greeted by a flat refusal. Where do I stand?

If you book a week off do you book 3 days or 4? If you are asked to book 4 then your holidays should be revised up. If you only have to book 3 then your holidays are correct.

It sounds like you are doing a lot of overtime. Whether because you want to or are expected to is irrelevant, right now its still overtime.

Possibly you could ask about increasing your contracted days to 4.
Alternatively, if you were happy to drop down to 3 days then just work the 3 days.

Thanks for the response. No I only have to book 3 days as technically 2 are non-working days. I guess the only way forwards is changing to a 4 day week.

You work an extra day a week from choice but only need to take 3 days holiday to have a week off. Those contracted to work 4 days per week don't have the feedom only to work 3 days, and also have to take 4 days holiday to get a week off.
You can't have it both ways.
