job seekers daily contact

i currently looking for work after studying on 2 courses over the past 3 1/2 years.
when the final course finished on friday i though tit apropriate ti sign on to job seekers while looking for work.
on ariving at the job centre for my first meeting i was shocked to hear that new job seekers have to attend daily signing for the first 13 weeks of their claim. on arriving home & searching online it apears that daily signing should be used after looking at somebodys job search history and finding them in need of support, but there wasnt much up to data information.
being placed on this before any personal circumstances or recent job search activities have even discussed sweems excessive and i am unsure if its a national thing or just a the local job centre.
does anybody know what the national criteria is for being placed on daily contact ?

no just inconvinient pointless and completely unnessesary.
whats needed is more jobs not more competition for the ones that exist.
i was under the impression that dails visits were for people that need the support not automatic and required for every new claim.
might be usefull if the local job center was capable of looking for ways to support job searching but i know what they are like and will be either sign a form & go home or accasionally be asked what i have done.
im curious wheither or not they can do that, if its just a local thing or national & what the national criteria is
how does asking " Is it that much of a hardship to do?" help ?

The third PDF is the more relevant one if you have the will to plough through it.

Add to that the cost. If I was having to do that it would be costing over £3 per day just for bus fares. That's 20% of the JSA payment gone simply to get to and from the JC. Sounds ridiculous unless there is a history of failing to comply with job search or other requirements.

I think you may be confusing OP and OH.

Depends where you live. In my town they closed the jobcentre in 2000 and its a 30 mile round trip on the bus/train to the one now serving the town costing just short of £7 a day so in a week you'd spend almost half your JSA on travelling to the appointments.

There aren't any national criteria (well available to the public). There may be internal DWP guidance to JCPs.

You can also always ask for the decision to be reconsidered (assuming you received a Direction to attend daily).

It's used sparingly as obviously JCPs wouldn't have enough time or staff to do this to more than eg 5% of claimants, as most are only open for signings from eg 9.30am - 12.50pm and 2pm - 4.20pm.

Incidentally I have never heard of this for new claimants and that certainly sounds unenforceable - as by definition new claimants could not have been given a Direction to attend daily.

Plus in the first 13 weeks of a JSA claim, Jobseekers are exempt from some of the other mandatory Directions, as they are within the permitted period in which they can restrict their job search to their previous occupation or area in which they possess experience and qualifications.

It may just be an error by this JCP, or a local trial I have not heard of.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.

Its not an error, when I applied for JSA i was told the same thing but didnt have to do it because I was volunteering 4 days a week directly after being made redundant.

Its not illegal for the JCP to do what they are doing, you should be compensated for your travel expenses (im not sure about petrol though).

If they thought you needed the extra help it would be much more than the 13 odd weeks. Its not nice but you have to do it im afraid. Fortunately my first appt was basically me telling the adviser i had found another job.

    JSA is not fun.
