When to follow up from an interview?

Hi,
I had a first interview last Friday morning. It seemed to go really well and I feel I answered the questions well and built up a good relationship with the interviewers.
I asked at the end of the interview what the next steps were. They explained they have more interviews on the same day (Friday) and early the next week (so this week). They said I should hear something by mid-to end of next week (this week).
I sent the recruitment member of staff (it's a direct recruit through the company and not an agency/consultancy firm) an email just thanking her colleagues for their time (I didn't actually meet her in the interview) and this was well received.
She said in the email that she'd pass along my thanks and be in contact shortly.
I'm incredibly keen on the role so I'd like to know sooner rather than later if I have a second interview but equally I don't want to be annoying.
Do you suggest I simply wait until they contact me or could I send a polite email soon asking for an update?
What are peoples thoughts please?

Glad to hear you felt it went well.
In fairness to them they have said they will let you know mid to end of this week & we are barely at the mid point, I would leave them until maybe Friday lunchtime before approaching them again.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

I wouldn't until a week after the deadline they set.0

The minute I walk out of an interview that's the end of it for me.
They either want me and call me, or they don't.

Thanks for the replies.
I think I'll wait till Friday then before contacting. They know I'm keen but equally I don't know if someone with more skills than me has been interviewed.
I know they'll be a second round of interviews so fingers crossed I find out soon and I get to that stage.
Thanks again.0
