Civil Service - CV Skills Background Information

Filling in application for role on CS jobsite and there is a CV element which I have not seen before. This gives opportunity to fill in a skills element but this states the following:

Don’t include any personal information that could identify you.
This will help us recruit based on your knowledge and skills and not on your background, gender or ethnicity. Recruiting this way is called name blank recruitment.

Remove any reference to your:
• name or title
• educational institution names
• age or gender
• email address
• postal address or telephone number
• nationality or immigration status

When you look at blind recruitment it states that recruitment should be based on skills only and not experience. However, many of the skills I have relevant to the specific role are based on my military experience and hence background.

My question therefore is can I include military experience within the skills area of the application as these are very relevant to role? I do not want to be excluded from the application by being deemed non compliant with application process by including information on military background.

Any thoughts from CS members who have knowledge on the subject appreciated. Application to be submitted by midnight 8 Feb 2017.

Better get writing straight away: the system is buggy so you should submit it an hour before the deadline.

You demonstrate skills by describing the situation where you used them. While your description may make it obvious that you were in a military context, no need to say so outright.
  • Everything ready to submit yesterday evening so no problems with deadline.

Called point of contact today to clarify issues and they are happy to accept experience etc within skills submission. Actually stated that they cannot understand how you can demonstrate skills etc without including experience and background information. Also stated that other applications already received have included similar information so no issues there
