Pimp my marmalade

I'm planning on using some Ma Made tins to make up "homemade" marmalade for Christmas gifts. (I know it's a little bit of cheat to use the tins!)
Has anyone got any great ideas for special extra ingredients? This thread mentions either whiskey or grapefruit. I like the idea of whiskey. Anything else I could add to make the marmalade more "festive", and will extra ingredients affect the set?
Thanks in advance!

Hi tallulah,
Sorry I'm not a marmalade person but would Grand Marnier work?

My friend made a ginger marmalade a few months back.... It was lovely.
She used the crystalised ginger, cut up into little bits........and not the fresh ginger.0 -
I have a recipe for orange and grapefruit or lemon and pineapple which I will look up tomorrow - both are excellent“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

You'll be amazed at how little alcohol you need, as well. For one and a half pounds of sevilles and three pounds of sugar I used 3 tablespoons of whiskey stirred in at the end, just before potting, and it has a really good flavour, stronger than most commercial types, I think. This amount made aprox seven pounds of marmlade.
The whiskey made no difference to the setting of the marmalade, probably because there was so little of it.
Whiskey is traditional with marmalade, but I think that that is more to do with Scottish connotations than anything. I don't see why brandy should not work equally as well, or Grand Marnier if you have it, or anything which you think will go well with a strong and slightly bitter orange taste (triple sec?)0 -
Yum! Thanks so much, definitely gonna try the whiskey, and almond and ginger sound good too.
Thanks for the advice on setting, Seakay!"Then, when every last cent

My auntie always adds a bit of Cointreau to hers ( I think she got the idea from M&S and they can do no wrong in her book) so I think Grand Marnier would work just fine. Shame I have a freezer full of Seville oranges I can't do anything with as I am now without a kitchen for hmmmmm over 5 mths. grrrrr. Good luck with yours.0

I would think that slivers of almonds would be lovely.
Have to say, I think it is the best idea! I think I'll start collecting small jars to do the same. I'll make some circles of pretty 'old fashioned' fabric to make tops.
Thanks...:T0 -
