  • What about a jam making pan they are pretty big and if you had it over a twin camping stove you may be able to get it to simmering just bubbling pint like a slow rolling boil Jam pans are pretty good sized and bigger than an ordinary saucepan Just a thought :)
reminded me of an old black cast iron pan that I used to boil my childrens nappies in back in the early 1960s it was a monstrous thing and covered two gas rings but it did the trick, weighed a ton though :):):)

it will be a thing done on a regular basis , perhaps 2 times a week , I get paid for cleaning and rebuilding old motorbike carbs , up to recently I used my ultrasonic cleaner and expensive cleaning liquid , however an ultrasonic does not remove oil or stains , but the 2 x 50p bottles of lemon , the carbs come out internally (air passages) and externally clean ,, win win , but alas no longer in the kitchen!

a DFF would be small/ neat and less trouble than a hob unit sat on the bench

In that case I might get a slow cooker from a car boot sale and use that on a high setting. You can also get liners for them, to keep the SC clean, the liners are one-use and you can buy them in cheap shops/cheap market stalls, so a few pence....

I'd line the SC, add water, pop the grubby stuff into the water ... set to high, lid on..... and it's safe to walk away from.
  • how long will a slow cooker take (filled with kettle boiled water) to get to a point that it is bubbling?
