slow cooker; the same as a low oven or better???

I keep seeing posts extoling the virtues of a slow cooker. I have neither the cash or the counter space for one so just want to know (as I am not an experienced cook) can I achieve the same affect just by cooking something in the oven at a lower temperature?

Not sure how something would turn out after 8 hours (or so) in an ordinary oven. Would have to be a bit of an experiment with the temperature - possibly having a go one day when you aren't going out, so you can keep an eye on it.

The thing about slow cookers is that they are safe to leave on very low all day and cost very little to run.

urmm not sure how it would turn out.
i love my slow cooker and when not i use it sits it a cupboard recently upgraded to a bigger one so i can cook more and freeze the rest, at the moment they can be brought from around 13 in argos

very cheap to run and easy to use
