London booming the north sinking

This should be no surprise but here is a report from December last year showing some data

http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN05795

2009-2015
London up 13.1%
UK up 5.2%
NI down 3.8%

This is in real terms so takes inflation out of the picture

With regards to house prices they would act to a multiple of these. So if your post tax income went up 13.1% today then you could afford to pay more than 13.1% extra for housing as all your other costs are the same. If housing is 1/4th of your cost and you get a 13% income boost you can pay 52% more for housing and have the same overall spending power on everything else. If on the other hand you get a 3.8% income cut using the same figures you can only pay 85% as much for housing to keep the same overall spending power on everything else.
