Career change at 36??

And to add to what chuck has asked, what qualifications do you have that would be useful in another career? What salary would you need to earn in a new job to meet your current commitments?0

Hi mark
I was in a similar situation 5 years ago, at the ripe old age of 38. I left accountancy after over 20 years working in it, I was fed up with successful businesses constantly moaning about having to pay tax.
I now foster under fives full time, this the most demanding and rewarding job:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: always makes me laugh how it can be called a job when you never get any time off.
Good luck in your quest for job satisfactionQue Sera, Sera0 -
These threads from mid 30s wanting to change horses mid career (especially accountancy related) are happening every week.
This may be helpful, the 1st minute is not very relevant though

I have a couple of accounts qualifications and earn about 26k. I didn't finish my final exams due to a serious illness back in 09. I live by myself and have just taken on a loan to clear old credit card and overdraft debts so earning less is not really an option.
I like some of the suggestions so far. I've been looking here and there at CAB, charity, trading standards, consumer rights advisor roles over the last few days. Not much information exists in getting your foot in the door at my age unfortunately.0 -

More often as a Temp on quite a drop of salary I'm afraid.
One person I got speaking with reckoned they started on a 3 month assignment so I was considered lucky at 6 months, 2x further 6 months before becoming a brand 3 in local authority.
My experience has also been it's best to be unemployed which isn't really wishable.0 -
Could you volunteer in your spare time to get more experience in assisting people with their finances? Charities like Age Concern and debt related ones (step change) also help people like the CAB do and might be more likely to employ someone who has already proven themselves with them?
Would working with people setting up their own businesses be more worthwhile to you, or even being a trainer for people becoming self-employed in how to do their own accounts?Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
I really don't want to do anything in business or accounts related in all honesty.0
