I recently had a letter from a company called Daniels Silverman chasing an alleged debt. I Withdrew my daughter from nursery (I signed a contract) but gave them notice in the form of a posted letter. Setting aside a statutory demand.

You can apply to have the SD set aside ( cancelled ) if you respond within 18 days of the date of service, in your case the grounds would be "there is substantial dispute about the monies said to be owed"

The application is made on form 6.4 supported by an affidavit in form 6.5. There is no court fee, and this will be heard by a district judge who will then make his/her decision
