My Mum and Dad are both 57. If my Mums' not horse riding she's out running, if my Dad's not building his house he's out cycling.
I can't think of two people so NOT old. They would laugh their heads off at the idea of coach holidays or bingo
My Mum got chucked out of a pilates class a couple of weeks ago....for laughing with her mate... they thought the moves were hilarious and were doubled over laughing as they tried to balance on one leg.
Hardly an OAP methinks
Edilass, the concerts are a good idea, what about excercise classes, sports clubs and dance classes. There are loads of people at my gym doing salsa, yoga and pilates....most over 50 but looking good.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
In some ways I have the opposite complaint but it adds up to the same thing! There always seem to be so many 'Gentle' Keep Fit classes advertised as only for the over 50s - well what makes people think that everyone under 50 can do an un-gentle Keep Fit class? Why do they need an age restriction? If it's for very unfit people or with restricted mobility, why do you have to be 50 to be allowed to do it?
Anyway, before we know it I'll be qualified to visit the over-50s board so I shall see you all on the revamped board - just not quite yet!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Many moons ago when I was in my 30's the council started running excercise sessions at our local swimming pool for over 55's. My friend and I were very interested in this but there was nothing for younger people, so we made a bit of a fuss and they let us go to the "old folks" classes. We used to have a great time and went for a couple of years. The council said they only advertised the age thing to encourage older people to go, and it wasn't really a restriction.
So if you see a class you fancy I would suggest you go.

I very rarely look at the SS board either, at 61 I feel more like 40 and when other people tell you that you don't look your age you're inclined to think they're just being polite but recently when looking at people who I know are the same age as me I also think I don't look my age.:p ( Vanity.......................) I can still wear my thongs with pride:o
Most of my friends are younger and I enjoy their company.
I don't know exactly how to gee up that board but it's nice to know there are older people here I always tend to think posters are younger. It would also be nice to know who's male and female too. Mentioning concerts I'm going to see Elton next month.
Gonna pop over to SS now for a peep.Women and cats will do as they please and men and dogs should get used to it.;)

Thanks Mrs MW for starting this post. I'm also 59, hitting 60 this October, and looking forward to it! I am still working 3 days a week, and with the bus-pass and receipt of my pension, will feel quite rich.
I don't fit into any blue-rinse stereotypes. Not into Bingo or coach trips, happiest in the garden, on the computer, or seeing friends. Occasionally babysit for my three grandchildren but don't want to be tied down too much.
Like Margaret, Mr Libra and I went on a Warner's holiday last year and chose Bodellwyddan Castle, North Wales. I won the prize in an internet competition, and we really enjoyed our stay. We travelled round North Wales every day, and are booking to return this year.
It's a great idea to try and 'liven up' the Silver forum, after all, 50 is the new 40!
Good Luck0 -
Needmoney, I am so envious of you going to see Elton. We saw him about 4 years ago at Harewood House when he did the Solo tour. He was absolutely brilliant, the best concert I've ever been to. I still wear the tshirt.
Have a great time.0 -
