Student Loans and Burseries for your children whilst on an IVA

Hi Guys

Waiting to hear from Debt free direct re my IVA application and have arranged for Black Horse to come and collect the car.

Does anyone know what happens with regards students when you are on an IVA. My daughter is due to go to university Sept 08 and our gross income would mean very little, if any, means tested grants. Can you appeal for a student grant if all parents income is going on an IVA? Just wondered if any other parents out there with kids at University were on an IVA - and how they found the system.

My Bankruptcy had no effect whatsoever on my daughter's student loans - I would imagine it will be the same with an IVA.

By the way - what did your IP reccomend regarding Black Horse and the car?

I think the problem here might be more that the IVA payments may not be taken into account when the level of support that the daughter is entitled to is assessed.

In other words, a high income for the parents may mean little support available in terms of grants/loans. But because in reality the surplus income is very small because of the IVA payments, the parents will not be able to offer much alternative support out of their own pocket.

I don't know the answer, but the awarding bodies should have some policy on this (good or bad).

    Hi there

The CAB recommended that we returned the car and when my husband rang Debt Free Direct they confirmed that it was ok to surrender the car and have any balance that may be left added to the IVA

The following forum contains an entire section on IVA's. You can probably find plenty of info, and the answers to lots of questions about them there.
