2017 - my frugal year

When I am in a relationship (currently not so maybe my view is the cause!
) I always just saw Valentines as an excuse/prompt to spend a couple of hours over a nice meal and a glass of wine. Music on and candles. Simple but just spending quality time together is what it is about for me...but I am single so maybe they didn't feel the same!

hello there,
Sorry to hear about the little ones illness. doing better?
Sounds like you have a lot of positives. I know what you mean about feeling guilty when you do spend anything but I suppose you got to think about where you've come from. i,e spending more and given you are having restraint now you are doing a lot better even if you do have one spendy day. Well thats what I tell myself. Spending a bit more one day rather than spending a lot most days is def a plus. ( talking from my own experience). I too get the guilt when I have one day where I spend a bit more but it usually works to tell myself how much I've changed. Your positives are very positive! You are doing so well.
I hope you had a nice weekend despite the illness and marking. As I said on my diary, I was out this weekend so fun day yesterday but today was marred with a hangover. I think I would rather have been marking :O lol
Hope you have a great week.
Thanks for the support! It really helps to have people cheering you on, doesn't it?
Little one marginally better but keeps conking out. OH and I just rubbish; dragging ourselves to half term. On my walk into work each day I think about how far I've come in such a short time - it is very empowering to finally be in control of my money.0 -

Absolutely. I feel I've probably pressured him in the past to 'conform' (naughty me). But then, he doesn't lavish me with presents or romantic gestures the rest of the year so I felt I deserved it. This year, maybe I've grown up a bit and can see that he does things every day to show he cares (feel free to use the 'fingers down the throat' gesture!)
I don't think there is a magic formula to Valentines, it just has to be what the couple feel is right for them.0 -
Parents evening tonight - 3 til 7. An NSD so I'm feeling quite pleased (especially as the temptation was there to pop to the shop for a sugar rush at lunch to get me through the day) but I resisted, spurred on by the fact I am now 70 kg and officially have a healthy bmi!0

Another NSD yesterday but today was OH's birthday and he was still unwell so I gave the gift of rest and took the little one out for a couple of hours - only spent £6 on his lunch (I ate leftovers before we left).
Half term as of now and couldn't be more in need of a rest. Haven't got anything planned in as yet so we will just go with the flow and try to keep it simple and in budget.0 -
Hope half term is nice and restful for you." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Hope you having a nice rest. I too am have having the ultimate rest weekend I think. So exhausted.
It is great to have people cheering you on. I look forward to coming on here and reading posts and posting. I didn't get the chance to all week and actually missed reading/posting.
Valentines day! Of course. I have been looking for the tips on the main webpage about cheap treats. Will probably get one of the dine in for two offers and a card
That will do. And a lot cheaper than going out and splurging on gifts.
Have a great weekend!0 -
Had birthday treat night out tonight and just popping in to report a delightful happening - we got to the restaurant and OH whipped out £40 of clubcard vouchers!
Managed to get through the entire evening within budget and have a very tired but very excited little boy to have stayed up in the dark to watch the new Batman film.
Good night all. Will be exploring cheaper methods of entertainment for the rest of the week but tonight reminded me that spending can be fun when done on the right people and in moderation!0 -
Sounds like you had a lovely night! Hope you enjoy the week

This evening I had NO idea what to have for dinner. Had a look in the fridge and spotted a leek...sent 4 year old to the back of the cupboard to scout out a potato - et voila! Leek and potato soup. It was delicious so I invited my Mum round too. Felt very moneysavingexpert.0
