if you move home and want to change boots opticians, what's the process?

couple of questions:

can i just phone the boots up more local to where i am now and ask to sign up there instead? obviously my old boots optician has all my details, so should this be a simple process?

one other question: have been considering moving to specsavers, but not sure what to do as i like boots, never had a problem with them and i like the benefit of a boots card. would you recommend specsavers or staying with boots?

thanks.

You can go to whichever optician whenever you want.

I've changed from Specsavers to Boots and back again (because of availability of retinopathy testing ), without telling the one I was leaving. I think they can request your details from a previous optician, as records are electronically stored, nowadays.

If your problem is straightforward long or short sight, they don't even need your records as they can tell your old prescription by examining your glasses.

You are not tied to any particular optician, it's where you choose to take your custom!

I have used Specsavers for years but as I understand it each branch is essentially a franchise. The staff are great at my local branch but a friend has walked out of another branch miles from here they were so rude and unhelpful!

Once you have the prescription you can take it to any optician to be fulfilled, so at point you could see which was offering the best deals.

okay so as you've used both opticians, which one would you say is cheapest?

i don't have any issues with boots, but a friend is with specsavers and i've been getting specsaver booklets through the door, so was considering changing over for a change.

i may stick with boots though for a little longer as i need new glasses and contact lenses anyway.

Opticians are not like doctors. Go to whomever you like, where you like.

I was with Boots for a while, they were expensive. Changed to Specsavers, tested and check my eyes, cheaper specs, more choice. I also had contact lenses from them. Have a look round your Specsavers shop, see if you like any frames, ask about prices, you can walk out again if you don't like them.

The MSE thing to do is to get a free test from Tesco or a voucher for free or cheap test from somewhere else, then as required re-glaze existing glasses and/or buy from one of the many cheaper outlets on the internet.

All you need to add to your prescription is your pupil distance, and you can get this for yourself with a mirror and a ruler.

I'd suggest you ask friends locally for heir experiences of the opticians you wish to use. Branch standards vary widely, even within the same chain.
