Lowell lost my £1,200 payment!!!

My debt was with Argos Card for £2,400. It got sold to Zinc before only about 2 months ago being passed to Lowell. Although Lowell owned the debt, they were allowing Zinc to manage it. Zinc offered me a 50% Full & Final. Yes I've got it all in writing in the post!

I paid £1200, got all receipts and stuff and they said they'll inform Lowell it's all paid and balance is £0 and closed. That was on 9th January. Lowell cannot find this payment and after asking for the evidence all I get is 'I've raised this with another department and waiting to here back' That's been the excuse for the past 10 days. I've wrote to Lowell CEO last night but not heard back yet.

£1,200 is a lot of money but where do I stand. Do I have to sit and wait until they've scoured there systems for it or is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Complain to anyone higher?

A nicely worded but stiff letter pointing out that this is completely unacceptable and that you will be going to the financial ombudsman very soon if they do not find it would seem to be in order. You need to give at least 14 WORKING days for them to comply. These monolithic organisations move with the speed of a moribund slug. Chances are it isnt lost, it is just mislayed into the wrong account. Copy both organisations in on the correspondence. There is also the option of more public scrutiny, a national paper is probably a good place to start. At the end of the day, you have all the paperwork showing that you paid them, what they did with the money after that is none of your concern. Your files should be updated accordingly. You can also demonstrate the situation in a court if necessary.

I'll give the CEO time to respond. If I don't hear anything on Monday, I'll send off a letter. Can I say if this isn't sorted I'll take it to a newspaper or something as well as ombudsman?

Agree with Taff. What paperwork from zinc do you have that offers you the deal and receipts that confirm payment and that the rest is not owed. Also any bank statements that show that amount being paid. All this needs to be documented to Lowell

  • Payment still hasn't been found...over a month now since paid the Full & Final. The Financial Ombudsman have asked for some information even thought my first complaint only went through on 24th Jan.

Should I say I'll be looking to claim for pain and suffering due to the stress cos £1200 is a lot of money? Or is that too far? I'm not really but just some pressure?
