Looking to get out of debt
Biggpaws
IHi I wanted to pick your brains on my debt I've built up over the last 5 or so years since university. I ignored it for a long time which I regret now. I got with a debt charity called step change who pay my creditors a monthly fee of £230 per month of my total £4929. The problem I'm having is the companies have sold some of the debts on to a company called Lowell and others which they've been adding interest and fees meaning it's going up and not down. Would I be best to ring each individual company and set up a plan directly or what would be my best move? Appreciate any help as I'm really looking to get back into the green. Thanks

Hi,
What type of debts were these ?
Lowell cannot add interest to a consumer credit act debt, or any charges, unless the original agreement allows them to do so.
Credit cards, loans, catalogue accounts etc all forbid this.

Catalogue debt
Mobile phone debt
Overdraft
Payday loan
That's what the debts all were for. Lowell has £2660 of the debt total. The debts that have been handed to Lowell have went up and the debt collection agency has put on charges.0 -
My wife & I have 3 debts with Lowell and they've never gone up.
Did the costs get added by original creditor (interest, late fees, etc) before being passed to Lowell?Debt As Of 19/3/2021: £16,973 | Current Debt: £9,322 | 54.9% Repaid0
