Extra income for christmas?

hellies
Hi, this is my first time posting on the debt free wannabe board as I usually just read other peoples posts, i hope I'm not intruding!
Basically, I desperately want to get through christmas without getting into debt, as I am quite near to being a debt free-er. I have quite a big family, and do not want to be too tight on present buying although I am quite happy to do things the mse way! This is the first christmas that dd will really understand whats happening so want to make it special for us all. I was wondering if people have any advice on how to earn a bit of extra cash to see them through the festive season, I am willing to do anything (within reason obviously!). I already have a fairly regular babysitting job and do market research, i think i am registered to most of the internet research sites, have every loyalty card going and have made all the cutbacks I can possibly make!
Sorry i forgot to add that i work full time!

Hiya Hellies,
Welcome to the DFW board and of course you're not intruding!! Well done on nearly being debt free-er
I don't actually have any tips re. crimbo but just wanted to say hi  and see what tips you are given

Have a big clearout and sell anything that hasn't been used for over 6 months on ebay. You'll be really surprised how much money you make, and it means that your home will be less cluttered come Christmas.
If you or your partner has ever done a degree or any sort of formal study, now is an ideal time of year to put old text books on amazon- students are all starting their courses as we speak and want to save their *hard earned* loans for cider and black, so will be looking for second hand textbooks and course materials.
Concentrate on making memories rather than just the present side of things as well. Obviously if this is the first year your little one will be aware of everything going on, you'll want to get her something special, but don't forget to enjoy spending time with her too! A couple of afternoons spent decorating the house with her and letting her watch/help you make a cake or a pudding will be the things that you'll treasure in 20 or 30 years time!Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

hi hellies
last year several people I know made large amounts of money babysitting on new years eve. Apparently you can charge a high hourly rate on that night - and possibly other big nights too, like Christmas Eve.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hi OP :hello:
Certainly not an intrusion, great to see more people joining the battle to get debt-free.
Here are my thoughts for x-mas money:- Great time of year to get a temping job. 2 years ago I got a 6 week xmas temping job - I am still there working 2 days a week, a wonderful asset for a student!
- Have a major clothes clearout and ebay them.
- Start putting a bit of money aside, if you saved £20 a week, you would have £200 by december 1st!
- If £20 a week is a bit much, start saving small -check out the £2.00 savers club thread.
- Get daily clicking and hopefully you should get some payout by early december.
 Total debt £21,000 :eek:Weight loss to date - 2 st, 2lb:j0 -
Immoral Angel, i already work full time and am 20 weeks pregnant, and babysit quite regularly so a part time job is not really ideal, although I would be happy to do something at home or that I could take to babysitting, don't mind how long it takes or if the pay is a bit rubbish, maybe envelope stuffing or something similar?
Shell_girl, thanks for the advice but already did all our selling to get nearer to our DF date! I totally understand what you mean about making memories, last year we sprinkled reindeer food in our window box with dd and that was one of my fave crimbo moments! unfortunately we even need to buy a christmas tree this year! we have got tickets to go to see father christmas at harrods (fab!) with my niece and sister and brother in law which is free but even that comes at the cost of train fare!0 -
I've just put in an application for Tesco (was rejected last year, but told I could re-apply) and they ask if you would consider part-time/weekends.
So that MAY be a suggestion for you.
Also ALDI have an advert for part-time staff.
Good luck.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

hellies: I think most of the 'envelope stuffing' type jobs you see advertised are scams.
Is there anything you can make and sell on ebay? Another thing i do from time to time is scour ebay (especially the gold jewellery) for bargains (finishing low with no bids, for instance) and then resell it later for more by adding a better pic or describing it better.0 -
Chloebelle, sorry i think i posted whilst you were posting!! my sister and I are having a 50p saving challenge for xmas, i think i might start putting a bit more aside too though.... £200 by xmas would be great!
Adrasteia01, I had a feeling that would be the case with the envelope stuffing! I dont think I am creative enough to make stuff to sell on ebay but i might try!
Thanks for all your help guys!0 -
Hello!
In case you are still looking to earn some extra cash for christmas, thought I'd let you know what I do.... I sell well known childrens' books. It's great fun and you can do it as much or as little as you want - no targets or pressure. So a lot of people do it seasonally to earn some extra cash to pay for christmas, holidays etc.
PM me if you'd like some more info.
