does anyone else feel that whenever the competition is a multi platform entry that twitter/ inst looses out probably 90% of the time?

how do companies even draw comps fairly if they have entries from twitter, inst, fb and god knows where else?

Entries are fairly easily combined, one method is to allocate each entry a number regardless of the entry method then use a random number generator (RNG) to select the winner - ITV use/used something similar.

Another way involving less work would be combining the total number of entries from all platforms say 80 FB 20 TW 30 Inst, total 130, use a RNG to select a number from 1 to 130 - then keeping the entry methods in order if the number drawn is between 1 and 80 you have a FB winner, 81 and 100 TW and 101 to 130 Inst and you only need to look further at the entries from the winning group.

Everything else being equal over time the entry route with most entries would be expected to win most often.

Not the number of entries but the number of followers for a couple of sites are

HB on FB 1,149,986 TW 31,081 Inst 47,667

    Next FB 1,797,024 TW 243,721 Inst 428,357

I was surprised that Inst was ahead of TW but FB is the clear winner, in a recent Home Bargains comp the FB entries outnumbered the TW ones by 16 to 1.

The Winner Selector works by taking in all entries to a competition from each entry route, and assigning a unique random number to every entry. This is done independently of the original entry method, and assures that each entry has the same chance of being selected, irrespective of the method of entry.

When web entry was free there were lots of entries that way and there were many winners now you almost never hear of a postal winner but equally the numbers have shifted and there are far fewer entries that way than the paid routes.
