Annual Leave

Hi Guys,

Please help:

If an employee works causal or irregular hours, in order to calculate annual leave entitlement, it is okay to use the 12.07% calculation?

That is, 52 weeks - 5.6 weeks annual leave entitlement = 46.4 weeks

If we divide 5.6 by 46.6, we get = 12.07%


Would you agree it is okay to base the calculation on tax year: This is 6th April to 5th April in the following year?


In addition, if an employee has worked 50 hours over the course of the year, and has taken 10 hours of annual leave, would you agree to the following:

50 - 10 = 40 x 0.1207 = 4.828 Hours of annual leave due?

    That is how my annual leave is calculated for my jobs with assorted hours. actually I get paid an extra 12.07% instead but comes to same thing.

    In your calculation though I would say that the person would only be entitled to 6.035 hrs anyway and if they have had 10 hours they have over done it

    So, if we continue from the previous example, and the employee had actually taken 4 hours of annual leave and worked 50 hours over the course of a year.........

    50 x 0.1207 = 6.035 hours - 4 holiday hours taken, it would leave a residual balance of 2.035 hours owing to the employee?

    Sounds right

    Must say I do 2 job where I am employed but only do occasional days (approx 80 in the last year) - because they are occasional days I haven;t got anything to take annual from ! So I get paid for the annual leave instead.
