  • Well done for admitting about the gambling being the main cause of your debts and i know it is very very difficult to give something up that you are addicted to or love to do but if it has driven you that far into debt then it has to be done
Good luck with keeping away from it and keep us informed
You definately need to look into reducing your outgoings and without knowing what Sky package you have and what you watch would it not be worth considering a Now TV package at £10 per month with no contract for a while?
Its the little things like that that will get you on the road to being able to get rid of (or at least get the total of debt down) as it will free up a little bit of extra money to throw at it
    Good luck

The 64000 pound question here is does your wife know about this debt or are you trying to solve this on your own because the debt comes from a gambling habit she doesn't know about? If she doesn't know then that is a whole different ball of wax if you are trying to pay this off in secret.

On the basis of you both being aware of the exact numbers, then general advice is as follows
Cheque utility costs are the cheapest. Something like 60% of customers have never changed energy suppliers and are on their standard tariff. Changing could save you several 100 pounds a year. Also if your thermostat is set above 20 the turn it down and put on a jumper.

trade down cars to cheaper models/insurance. there are no sacred cows here.

down shift brands in the supermarket. chopped tomatoes taste the same if they are value or if they aren't yet you can pay up to a pound difference per tin! Just an example. If you have say 4 persons in the family and are spending more than 400 pounds a month on groceries then there is room to cut back.

Have a look at the Debt Remedy tool on the CCCS website. You can plug figures in and it will give you an idea of which route is best for you.

    good luck
