O/S Daily Monday 30 January 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still dark here, wet underfoot, it started raining during the late afternoon and continued well into the night, doesn't feel too cold though.

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Lunch yesterday was lamb, roasties, mash, carrots, cabbage, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy - the lamb had excellent flavour, the only downside was when I bought the lamb I though it was lamb shanks, but it wasn't on the box it said lamb joints, luckily I managed to get enough meat to satisfy everyone, there was no LO meat though. The LO apple strudel and tiramisu was dessert, strudel all finished, just tiramisu left, so we need to get that finished tonight. Dinner tonight will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg - nice and easy after a busy day at work.

Yesterday DH and I went out quickly in the morning as he needed new work boots and a new bag as his was falling apart - got both reasonably cheaply at the big cheap sports store, so we got home and I got stuck in getting lunch prepped and cooking, and pack ups sorted, he started decluttering the porch, managed to get rid of quite a lot of empty boxes etc, so it looks better already and we haven't really done that much - that's going to be tackled properly next weekend. We haven't got such a busy week this week, at the moment neither of us are working this Saturday but that can all change nearer the time!

I'm still doing ok with my GC budget - I had hoped to be a long way under - I will be as long as I don't go mad before Friday this week, but not by as much as I'd hoped - it does prove how easy it is just to spend though and hand over a card, if you pay with cash you feel it more. According to my calculations I'll be under my budget by about £37 - so not bad, but I need to bear in mind that we had a Sunday lunch out that I haven't included as it was a birthday celebration. This next Friday is the start of a new GC month for me, so it'll be interesting to see how this goes, as I've cut down a lot on how much wine I'm drinking, now only drink at weekends, and the last 2 weekends, have had 1 bottle, and had half on Sat and the other half on Sunday - and once it's gone it's gone, I can really see a difference in my shopping bill. My shopping on Friday was more than it would have been because I bought the ingredients to make the apple strudel and tiramisu (had to buy coffee liqeur as I'd ran out that was £12! and I only needed 2 tbsps so most of it left) also big pot of cream, sponge fingers - not that expensive but all bits I wouldn't normally buy, also big packs of toilet rolls were on offer so got some.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

I've been up since 4am, I've done two loads of washing and drunk gallons of coffee :D

I didn't get anything done yesterday and I blame Breaking Bad. I sat down to watch one episode and ending up watching four. One episode focused entirely on trying to kill a fly, I was gripped and couldn't wait to watch the next one, even though nothing happened apart from the fly is now dead :D That show is as addictive as the meth they're making, lol.

I WILL put that bathroom cabinet together today. Then I'm going to start scraping the walls in the lounge. I'll do a bit each day so by friday all the ugly, badly done, lumpy artex will be gone. Well not all gone, but smooth enough to skim over. I did a patch the other day to see how easy/difficult it would be – expecting a nightmare like the kitchen was a few years ago! - and the lumps came off easily.

I'll take Scampi out for a few short walks, he's improved massively lately and is even ignoring pushbikes, apart from the occasional one which comes tearing towards us on the path. The rider will laugh at the angry velociraptor on the end of the lead and apologise as they speed on past. As the path is straight and they can see us there from quite a distance, I assume the apology isn't sincere even when said nicely so I let them know they were at fault and what an idiot they are. And cats, there's been no improvement there whatsoever so I've just accepted that he'll always throw a nasty tantrum while trying to escape from me in an effort to get at them, lol.

  • Morning all
    Dark and drizzly here.
I'm off to work in a sec, my L&M is still in bed, he's on the late shift this week.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It feels cold this morning but what's new! At least it's dry and forecast to remain so.

Youngest DGD up and watching DocMcStuffins. Others yet to surface. It was the grand finale of the panto run last night. Now life should be a bit easier for all! The six weeks have been so time consuming. Not just for the Sunbeams but mums, dads and grandparents too with all the ferrying about and minding of siblings.

Bedrooms to tackle once they have gone to school. Girls' bedding to be washed but no rush for that as not staying again this week. I also want to wash our bedroom curtains as I had a bit of a shock yesterday when I noticed how grubby they were looking. They are so long and so wide they will take some drying and ironing.

I left some broth mix soaking last night to make a pan of chicken broth for Mr TA's lunches the next couple of days. A treat for him as he would live off it I'm sure! There is quite a bit of gammon left from yesterday so that will slice up for us tonight with maybe an egg and baby rosemary roasties.

Have a good day if you can and hugs as always for the poorlies, worried and sad. Take care xx

Camelot no luck with the eagle owl im afraid, she has been gont for over two weeks now but there keep being sightings, so keeping our fingers crossed.

Up early as have to finish mums washing to deliver back to her today as DD1 is doing her dinners tonight and tomorrow . We are off to see her consultant re the skin graft she is hoping that he says she can put her foot to the floor as she is finding heel walking difficult even with a frame. Dolly needs to be walked but is still in bed as DH let her out in the garden earlier and gave her breakfast. Busy week here need to meet the dog sitter tomorrow and at some point i need to go shopping for food .
Hugs to all those who need one and have a great day whatever you are up to

Morning everyone, thanks for the thread nmlc.

Overcast here but like others much milder, we had a lot of rain yesterday from mid-afternoon onwards.

Yesterday was the chilled, restful day that I needed, even found time to have a long bath, do my nails, eyebrows etc, things I haven't had the time to do for ages and feel better for it.
This morning intend to change the towels, always TD them, and there is the ironing from the weekend washing to do, will go over to the bungalow later to do a couple of hours of sorting out and then on to see DM's bank.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

Good Morning chums and <<hugs >> for Lainey probably done you the world of good to have a bit of pamper time honey.

Well its not cold but just damp and gloomy looking at the moment outside .My friend from Dartford is coming down for the day today, so lots of nattering and coffee will be partaken.Gammon salad for lunch with mince pies and some Y/S toffee flavoured custard that I picked up last week, intrigued to see what it tastes like as it was made by Ambrosia and Y/s because it had a dent in it to 30p dated to March 2018 though so not OOD Should know for sure what date I shall be off on my spring holiday as she does all the bookings.

Right time to get the kettle on and some coffee down my throat to kick start my day :)

Have a good Monday chums what ever you are doing ,enjoy it if you can

  • Good morning everyone,

I had a very relaxing weekend and didn't do too much which was nice. All organised for the week ahead though and I'm looking forward to it.

Been at the gym this morning and in work raring to go. Chicken, bacon and avocado salad for lunch today.

Tonight I've got badminton with my family again which is always good. I'll need to be sure to stretch to avoid cramp this time.

Tru - I remember that episode and I hated it. I felt like I just wasted an hour of my life!!!
  • Morning all, damp underfoot but it has finally stopped raining, woohoo.
Waiting in for the electrician, the one on Saturday was about 5 hours late, put on a new box switch thing, said there we are, all done, turned on the shower and nothing. Apparently there may be a break in the cable and he is coming back with a qualified electrician today. I mind more about the fact that the letting agency sent an unqualified person than the shower. I thought that wasn't legal. Still unable to get out through the back door, the bathroom extractor is o it's last legs and the boiler made a funny noise earlier.
I am grumpalicious as I have been awake since 2, after a vicious nightmare, I tried going back to sleep but eventually got up at 3. Since then I have achieved very little later I plan to have a major scrub in the kitchen.
LaineyT I think you needed that day for yourself, Hope you feel a bit rested.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Good morning everyone - thanks NMLC for starting the thread.
After being icey all day yesterday it warmed up in the evening only to drop back down overnight to below freezing so it's a lovely sparkly morning though very chilly, I really didn't want to get out of my toasty bed!
Spent most of yesterday afternoon sorting out and listing my second freezer - what a job but good to get it done. The "eating out of the freezer/cupboard" challenge is really helping me be a lot more disciplined re what I'm buying.
Didn't manage out yesterday so hoping the ice lifts so I can some fresh air today.
Payday today so need to go through my finances, probably my last full pay until I can get back to work so trying to be as canny as possible with my spends though do need to do a big on-line shop as I'm running out of essential household items like loo roll which would never do.
I've lentil soup out of the freezer for lunch today and that has more or less finished up my soup stocks so I'll make a pot later swithering between chicken and sweetcorn or leek and tattie.
Making chicken goujons in a herby, spicy crumb for dinner tonight I've not made these for ages so looking forward to that and they'll go nicely with some dip leftover from Friday for an easy dinner.
Hope everyone has a good day x
