Will missed payment 2+ years ago affect mortgage chances

Just applying for decision in principle for mortgage with Halifax through a broker with the missus. The mortgage is 75% LTV with help to buy.

I was just wondering though how strict are lenders with missed credit card payments. I have one missed credit card payment from 2 years ago. The missus unfortunately has about 9 missed payments from her student days on her credit card. All about 49 months ago so a fair while back now. Are these likely to put much of a stumbling block in terms of getting an approval?

Other than that we both have pretty decent credit scores now so hoping it will be ok

Anyone help me on this one? As worried abit that going to hamper our mortgage chances
  • I cannot answer you're question with a yes or no as I'm not in the trade! My GF had 4 missed payments November 15 to February 16 and we've been given a mortgage with 90% LTV with no issues at all.

9 is rather a lot though, but like you say a while ago. hoping the very helpful brokers on here can give you a more definitive answer.

Thanks for your help much appreciated :). Yes they were a while ago and I'm hoping one or two may just go over six years when it comes to applying.

We spoke to broker today who said AIP has been approved by Halifax so hopefully a good sign. We are getting a new build and the one we've reserved will not be ready until April 2017 to purchase so a few months to improve our credit files :)

AIP are not based on hard credit searches.

Only on full application will you know if your are successful. you would need a broker who is experienced to give you more advice as some lenders are more forgiving than others.
