Bank account at parents' address, not home address

Hi,

We're looking to get a mortgage in the next couple of months as first time buyers. My one big concern in us getting a deal is that we've both kept our banking at our parents' addresses since being students so the addresses on our bank accounts don't match our home/work/utilities/electoral roll/driving licence address. We've lived in this flat for over 5 years and not with parents for almost 10 years (13 if you include uni when we had summers at home but uni accommodation).

We have very good earnings and a 10% deposit, plus money for fees, furniture etc set aside. We don't have any bad credit history - small overdrafts (£400ish) and credit card (similar) always paid off so hopefully a decent credit score.

Is this going to be a big problem? I worry that changing the address now could look even more suspicious/be a big hassle for the sake of a couple of months/still look bad if we need to produce 3 months of statements and only one month is at this address.

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

A lot will depend on who you apply to and whether you have any other proof of address.

Some lenders will make this hard work others would not bad an eyelid.

  • Thanks for a quick reply.

We have proof of address from electricity bill, payslips, P60s and driving licence.

Looking at HSBC 5 year fix at the moment. I guess we just need to make an appointment and ask before they do any credit checks.

HSBC do not deal with brokers, so I am unsure what their stance will be.
You would be best speaking to them beforehand.
