Stamp Duty & Stamp Duty Land Tax

Evening all,

We are just days about getting keys to our first home and just received our final statement from solicitors.

The sale price is £127,000

On it fees it has Stamp Duty priced at £40 (was expecting this) and another fee called SDLT fee (google tells me it is Stamp Duty Land Tax) priced at £60

Does this sound right having 2 charges relating to stamp duty?

Obviously will ask our solicitors about it in the morning but just curious, dont want to be given them more money than needed

I'd hazard a guess that the £40 is the actual SDLT that your solicitor will pass on to HMRC, and the £60 is their charge for the administration associated with making that payment

They are probably charging you for completing the form and returning it to HMRC. It would be the same price no matter what the SDLT was. If you have a mortgage, it's likely a requirement that your solicitor completes the form so not much you can do about it.
