  • My project is D.O.N.E.! The past month has been really stressful, culminating with The Week From Hell last week, when I was working until 11pm most nights BUT we completed the project on Friday  I spent the weekend mostly catching up on sleep and housework-ey things (I know, so much glamour) and now I feel really refreshed and positive :)

I decided to set myself some goals for the month ahead (I've been inspired by Treadingonplaymobil's Diary , I think I need a bit of extra accountability!)

    April Goals

    Financial Goals

    1. Revisit the Snowball Calculator and make tackling remaining Barclaycard 27.6% debt the #1 priority
    2. Re-do Budget to reflect increases in council tax, utilities and broadband (boo!)
    3. Investigate other electricity and broadband providers

    Other Goals

    4. Revisit my study timetable to take into account upcoming assignments and exams
    5. Swap over winter and summer clothes from wardrobe. Do a ruthless sort out of summer clothes and sell/donate anything that no longer fits or wasn't worn last year.
    6. Step up meal planning to make things healthier, simpler and cheaper
    7. Big Fat Spring Clean
    8. Get shelves up in utility cupboard and boot rack assembled in hall
    9. Walk part of my commute every day, even if that is only one tube / bus stop difference
    10. Swimming and yoga every week

That's an amazing amount to pay off - congratulations!
Thank you! :) I'm aware I've been very lucky, I know that this isn't something that is likely to be repeated.
  • Credit card statements are slow to update this month. My HSBC statement came through today but Barclaycard still hasn't updated yet.

I've increased my Barclaycard direct debit by £100 a month, to take effect at the end of April. I will probably tweak it again once I see my new statement - I really want to get rid of that 27.6% interest rate as soon as possible!

I think I need the structure of a to-do list to feel like I'm making progress, even if most of them are not money saving goals. Otherwise I feel a bit despondent with the numbers changing so slowly.
  • Just got the Barclaycard statement, there is £252.56 left on the highest interest rate, so I'll be paying this off in April.

A little end of the week update on my goals. Have a great weekend everyone!

    Financial Goals

    1. Revisit the Snowball Calculator and make tackling remaining Barclaycard 27.6% debt the #1 priority DONE! Have adjusted the direct debit for Barclaycard too

Nearly complete! I vacuum packed all my winter clothes earlier this week, I've got to sort through the summer stuff and see if there is anything I can sell or recycle
    6. Step up meal planning to make things healthier, simpler and cheaper
    7. Big Fat Spring Clean
    8. Get shelves up in utility cupboard and boot rack assembled in hall Half done! The shelves are up, boot rack still to go
    9. Walk part of my commute every day, even if that is only one tube / bus stop difference Doing well with this - lighter, warmer evenings really help!
    10. Swimming and yoga every week

Brilliant diary this and I can see so many of your habits / spending patterns in myself, Started my own diary this month with over 23.5k worth of debt to get rid off and tackle.

I have a huge collection of trainers aswell which have certainly contributed to the debt so alot will be being sold now to pay it back (over £700 made this week alone)

Good luck with the progress and keep updating,
    Loan: £18,741.31 / Credit Card 1: £0 / Credit Card 2: £4541.71 / Parents: £300
    1st April total: -£23583.02
