  • :embarasseI sometimes get like that with shampoo and, weirdly, stock cubes! When we moved house a couple of years ago I had about a dozen boxes of stock cubes in different cupboards. :embarasse

On the upside, you know you're good for deodorant for a while :rotfl:

So true! I need to do a full inventory of toiletries because if that is anything to go by then I'm pretty sure I won't need to step foot in Boots until August :)

I used to be like that with shampoo and conditioner too (damn those 3 for 2 offers!) but I started buying 1000ml size bottles of both last year ... I've clearly channelled that into buying deodorant :rotfl:

I still need to sort out my kitchen cupboards, I wouldn't be at all surprised if I had stock cubes in there from when we first moved in.
  • After reading about MySupermarket on the DFW boards, I signed up for an account. I've made three lists - Groceries, Household Items and Toiletries and am adding things to them as and when I remember. I've had a couple of wins with finding special offers on things that I need to replace, and I've convinced my mum to sign up so we can mix and match between her usual supermarkets (Ocado and Sainsbury's) and mine (Tesco and ALDI).
I love that Boots and Superdrug are on there, even though they don't have all the cosmetics/toiletry brands I use, I can put some of my favourites in the tracker and keep an eye when the price drops.

I finally convinced my husband to actually use his cashback account when he had to order a couple of things from Holland & Barrett yesterday. He orders protein powder every few months, there are often special offers like the Penny Sale that make it more economical but getting 5% cash back is not to be sneezed at either.

I used to use MySupermarket years ago. I think I stopped when I stopped having shopping delivered but should have a look again. I use Quidco for cashback. I love it. Just before Christmas I was due about £40 but if you got it as an Amazon voucher you could get and extra 5% so I did that. All the pennies add up!

  • I've found it really good for comparing prices on the super-exciting things like laundry detergent and cleaning products ;) Well worth knowing if the detergent I usually buy is half price somewhere else, even if that means going out of my way to get it.
I've also found a few things like peanut butter in 1kg tubs ... we go through a jar every two weeks (well, my husband does, it always seems to be empty when I fancy some!)

Great news about the Amazon voucher, bonuses like that make such a difference and Amazon credit will always be useful for presents etc. I always use cash back sites when I'm shopping online, it infuritates me when my husband doesn't (and not just because I'm still waiting to get my referral fee for inviting him to sign up!)

I really like MySupermarket - I find sticking to my budget miles easier when I'm in the habit of using it every week.

1kg peanut butter!!! what are you doing with the stuff?!:p I'm the only one who eats it really even though 11yo loves Reese's peanut butter cups. he would never think of having it on toast. He is slightly obsessed by all things American so has tried having PB & jam. Not sure it's the same though.

I'm lucky with things like washing detergents that my MiL goes to a cash & carry and usually gets me a big bottle and doesn't let me pay for it. I went with her last time as she doesn't drive and also got about 150 dishwasher tablets as they were on a buy one get one free. Should last about a year I reckon if dishwasher goes on 3 times a week.

Other stuff like deodorants, toothpaste I tend to go to Superdrugs or Wilko's. I'll try mysupermarket again though.

Wow - my husband would fall over himself for 1kg of peanut butter! I haven't had it for so long, I'm definitely going to pick up a jar on our next trip to Aldi.

Naomim, my MIL does the same. Goes to Costco and picks up washing powder, fabric softener and a massive jar of coffee for us and pops in to our house with it (she has a key) while we're at work so that we won't pay for it. It's really appreciated and we do reciprocate if something is on offer that I know she uses, i'll pick it up for her. These savings all add up, though!
