Hi, I am filing my S.A tax return (last min I know) using the flat rate system for car expenses and can't find a source that specifies what is and isn't covered under this method. Is it literally everything?

It seems insurance, repairs, servicing, fuel certainly are but parking costs and perhaps breakdown services aren't..Even the gov.uk site uses a lot of e.g.s but does not provide a specific list.

If you are using the flat rate it's just 45p per mile for first 10,000 business miles and 25p per mile thereafter.

by definition the flat rate covers everything, that is the whole point of it. It is not just for fuel, it is the entire ownership of the vehicle : depreciation, insurance, road tax, repairs, servicing, fuel and anything else you care to list.

You can claim for parking fees (but not fines), congestion charges and toll charges in addition to the mileage rate.

These are considered travel expenses and not part of the motoring costs.

This page is for employees but show these items are clearly separate from the mileage rate.
