Made redundant..reapplying

So 7 months ago I was made redundant after 8 years at a large FTSE firm, now there are jobs so have reapplied. The job is the same job I did for 6 years and then for 2 years I trained the advertised job. The JD is the same as before and I fit...more than fit the criteria. Had a phone interview/chat last week for 20 minutes at which point HR advised I was not a suitable candidate and there were stronger candidates. Given the job and catchment area and the fact I trained any new candidates for the last 2 years that is not possible.

I feel its due to the hiring manager and I having a personal conflict, we were on the same level but I earned more and he did not like this and did make my life hard for many years, he is now in a higher position. They won't actually come out and say its because my face no longer fits but continue with this line of not a strong candidate.

Anywhere I can go with this? I have emailed the head of HR but O know the company heads stick together and will close ranks.

'Fraid not. They can hire who they like. Sorry.

I'd move on to bigger and better things if I were you.

    Good luck.

Why is it not possible that others are a better fit than you? They may be looking for certain qualities rather than direct experience.

You can ask for feedback (they don't have to give it), but I would focus on accepting that the company no longer see you as a good fit for them.

I know the business and I know the catchment area, I know the job and can guarantee that no one else knows this job like I do. I know if it were any other manager that I would have at least got to a face to face interview, the issues is this one manager who has always disliked me and is now using this against me.

To be blunt, if one manager disliked you then why would they hire you? It may not be fair, but I can't see how it's illegal in any way.

On the same note, why would you want to take on a job reporting to a manager who you believe doesn't like you? Sounds like a very stressful job, are you desperate?

Maybe they want some one fresh who doesn't "know it all", that they can mould into a different fit.

Given the hiring manager and you had a "personal conflict", you've already put a complaint in with HR and you already think they are all closing ranks against you why would

    (a) you want to work there again?
    (b) why would THEY want to re-employ you?

Maybe the hiring manager is more concerned about finding someone who will fit in the team better i.e. someone he/she can develop a better relationship with and who can grow into the role? Maybe they think you are a troublemaker (Sorry if that sounds harsh)? You don't know without asking.
