More broadly the economy is estimated to be ?? 30% ?? Non wage income or passive if you will

So somewhere in the region of £500 billion annually is received as passive income. That will include pensions

Where you say "passive income" I say "unearned income"

Got me thinking. Will be drawing both state and final salary pensions any day soon. They seem to fall in to OP passive income bracket definition.

I have a substantial monetary value in gold relying on capital growth. Others have investments that will be relying on capital growth as well. Capital growth can only be declared income' once it is liquidated.
So my question becomes, is categorising 'passive income' something we need to bother ourselves with..._

Capital growth is definitely secondary to me, much more important is the rental/dividend income. As your gold doesn't produce any income, I can see why you focus on capital growth, but that's why I have nothing invested in gold (or other previous metals), generally it produces no income.

Like stator said above, I prefer the 'unearned income' phrase, I think it is important, in fact very important, because that is how you can become financially independent, by building up your unearned income.
