A lot of retail cashier jobs don't even do a CRB check. The best employer is the one who is willing to hire her? Flexi hours work like they need you for certain hours and you need to be available whatever times they choose.
  • Anyone worked in Morrisons or Asda please?

I work for a supermarket and am on Flexihours.

My core hours are currently 16.5 per week (Sunday to Saturday) and they flex me up to 36.5 hours a week (even though I've done more since working for them last May).

After six months service you get a 10% discount card for staff (and a partner/family member if they live at the same address) with a pay rise after nine months' service.

They also have a discount website which saved me some money on my iPod Touch last year.

In terms of working on the checkout obviously you wouldn't be able to serve family members/friends to avoid any doubts, watch out for people trying to pass on fake/out of circulation notes and also trying to use coupons for products they haven't purchased.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

    Hi

Many thanks for the very useful post, especially re family/etc and fake notes never thought about that.

Do you mind telling me whom you work for please? In not, no worries but they sound like a nice org to work for.

    :)
  • It might also be useful to you that a friend of mine (someone on this forum, but not on this board) used to work for Asda. She gave up principally because EVERYONE on the front line at Asda is required to work some Saturday hours.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

CRB checks are no longer provided. The service which took over the service is the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).

As I understand it, a supermarket would not be able to obtain a DBS check for a till operator. It might request someone gets a Disclosure Scotland report.

I can't remember whether it's Aldi or Lidl who pay way above the minimum wage. They do expect staff to work hard for their money by all accounts.
  • Hi all

    Many thanks, all help appreciated.

    I work for Tesco.

I worked for them from 2002 through 2005 and rejoined the company last May.

    I think they both do.

I seem to remember seeing an advert for Lidl recently, they were paying nearly £10 an hour for shop staff in London with something like 30 days holiday.
