Would I get a loan?

Hi all

I'm considering getting a loan at 6.3% to pay off two credit cards (one at 19.9% and one at 16.9%). My credit rating is excellent and I've never had any problems but my OH (now ex) has. Before he moved out 12 months ago he'd set up a DMP as he was having difficulty paying his debts and couldn't afford his own place until a DMP was set up.

The loan I want to go for is with co-operative but that is one of the companies he's got the DMP with. I've put a dissasociation notice on my credit file after being refused a card by M&S back in April. When they refused me the card I wrote a letter of complaint, they checked the electoral role and saw ex wasn't living here any more so were willing to give me a card. They recommended I put the dissasociation notice.

I haven't applied for any credit since as I've been so worried about being refused again. But if I go for a loan with the co-op can they check my ex's details though my address? He's still getting some mail sent to my address (he picks it up when he picks up the kids) so they might still have this address as his address  .

Many thanks

what do your credit files actually say?

if he is shown as financially associated with you, then you need to get the agencies to remove the assiciation and not simply have a notice posted.
  • Should have explained better but that's what I've done. Called Experian and asked them to do a notice of dissasociation. They sent a letter through to confirm it had gone through a few weeks later.

as I asked ......what do your credit files actually say. etc...
  • Sorry to sound blond but what do you mean by say. As I've said I've got an excellent rating - all 0's, never missed a payment on anything.

Could you please be a bit more explicit?

  • You may be financially linked to your ex if you had any joint borrowing. This may impact on your own credit file.
I think this is what Clapton was referring to.

How long do financial associations stay on your file?

Just wondering cos i have some on my file from when me and my ex had joint applications. The accounts are now closed, but they still show on the report.
Is it 6years like the other stuff?

    Thanks
    Cheryl
  • The financial association between us has been removed. You need to write to the credit reference agencies to ask them to remove them, and with mine they were taken off pretty quick. Otherwise they stay on your account indefinately I think.

What I'm concerned about is the possiblity of the co-operative bank picking up that we have the same address.

If your credit file has no reference to your ex then I dont think your should have any problem.

They are not allowed to black list an address anymore.
