Morning all!  Well yesterday was eventful - about 3pm it was 35 degrees and we could hear thunder rolling in the distance until all of a sudden the heavens opened and we ended up with a flash flood in our road.  The grass in our garden was under about 2 inches of water by the end of it.  Trees came down in the main road and I think are still there this morning so I'm glad we're not planning on heading anywhere anytime soon.

Had an update on toilet saga finally yesterday: appears that the person who originally raised the support ticket contacted the porcelain company who made the actual toilet rather than the cistern company and it's taken 6 weeks for someone to realise.  The person I spoke to didn't see the irony in the fact that they're solution of getting the plumber to buy the part and then charge them for it is exactly what we were trying to do 7 weeks ago but no one their end was answering him when he asked.  Now have to wait and see when he's free to come and sort it out.  DH is going to ask them to reimburse us for the extra water we're paying for during this time so we'll see how far we get with that.

  • What a nightmare with the toilet! Its so frustrating that you've been waiting weeks for nothing fingers crossed your husband gets some kind of reimbursement for the extra water.
I think we were at about 28 degrees here yesterday and it was too much for me - I much prefer weather that requires me to wear a jumper!

Yes it was rather hot and I will be the first to admit I didn't really get much actual work done over the past two days because I literally couldn't think.

Morning all.  It's a much more palatable 17 degrees here at the moment and shouldn't get higher than about 23 *fingers crossed* throughout the day so here's hoping I'll be a lot more productive.  Have to do some voice over work today for a training module I'm pulling together.  I absolutely hate the sound of my own voice but will just get it over and done with one my neighbour has gone to work.

On the money front, not a lot to report really.  Just trying to resist buying all the things on amazon that are on my wish list   Have a few things that I want to try and list on eBay or somewhere to sell and a bunch of stuff to drop off for charity donations so might make a little extra cash that way.

Hoping to meet up with some friend's for a picnic in the park tomorrow - my friend's wife moved the the UK from South Korea in October and I've seen them once since, just before Christmas!

Morning all!  Start of another new week and I'm tired.  I'm also a bit chilly but happier that the weather is turning more Autumnal.  Had a lovely catch up with our friend's on Saturday, walking around their local park and just enjoying seeing people.  Totally wiped me out for the rest of the day though, and even DH said he was finding it tiring seeing people and having to remember to be vigilant about distancing etc.

Spent yesterday on the sofa doing not a lot but feeling sorry for myself.  I think I may have to make an appointment with the dentist this week as it feels like I might have another gum infection.  I have some damage to my lower jaw which was causing me to have recurrent infections a couple of years ago.  I had a root canal which seemed to have fixed the issue but then last year while I was in Korea, the filling fell out while I was brushing my teeth.  I had it repaired and again everything seems fine but just the last week or so I've had this ache in my jaw and my teeth just feel strange.  I hate the dentist and while I've found one who is lovely, knows how to calm me down and is good at her job, I'm still really scared.  Will give them a call on Wednesday if it still feels strange by then.

Have worked out that I should have an extra £300 left by pay day next week so will split that between the EF and the LISA in the hope of topping those up!

Thanks ladies, the tooth appears to be behaving itself at the moment so will see what it's like over the next few days.  I've been more conscious about not biting directly into food which I was advised to do by the dentist last year but sometimes I forget these things

It's been chucking it down all morning here which doesn't bode well for the walk I have planned this evening but I will still go out regardless of the weather!  I'm really trying my best to be more active and doing a 30 minute workout in the morning and then sitting all day isn't really helping me, hence the walking.

On the money front I've dipped into my extra cash this month to buy a couple of things that have been on my list for a while, namely some preserving jars and various korean spices to make Kimchi.  We both love it before we went to Korea (lots of Korea talk this week - think I'm missing travelling) and DH probably ate a little too much of it while we were over there.  I put it on my list of things I wanted to achieve this year alongside making sourdough bread which I achieved in March.  Our friend's kindly gifted us some Korean foods when we saw them which has spurred me on a little because you can't eat the food without kimchi.

On a slightly more MSE note, I saw that Nespresso were doing an offer where if you bought a machine between June and August you could get 100 capsules free plus a free month of their subscription service.  Applied yesterday and just received a notification that the delivery will be here this afternoon!  So I won't have to buy coffee for a while.

Afternoon all.  Payday today so have done the preliminary money shuffle and paid the council tax.  Will have to wait till after the 1st to see exactly where we stand with the various pots but have added an extra £60 to the LISA payment due out this week and already sent £150 to the long term savings pot.

Had a bit of a spendy weekend - someone really needs to take my credit card away from me!  It's all paid off though now so no big deal and ended up buying a few things that we've needed for a while, like a label maker so I can start organising the kitchen better and clear the clutter away on the sides - we have a few jars of things that look very similar and the only way I can tell the difference at the moment is remembering that the cornflour is in that jar to the left of the kettle and the plain flour is to the right of the toaster etc.

Out of the house pot we ordered a new canopy for the door finally.  Ended up costing £570 which made me go "eeekkk" very loudly but we searched and searched and couldn't find the same one any cheaper.  Should be here in a couple of weeks and FIL is going to come down and help fit it for us as we need his expertise to get rid of the metal poles stuck in the concrete path that are kind of holding the current one in place.

September sees me starting to pay off my student loan via direct debit and I can't wait till January when its all gone.
