Hi,
I had an interesting conversation with a colleague at work a couple of days ago and was just wondering if anyone could tell me where I stand with this one.
My colleague mentioned that the law had changed a couple of years ago with regards to people working away from their main place of work and how they now should be paid for travelling time to and from home?
I work in the public transport sector and in my contract it states that I am permanently based at site A but may be required to work at site B. In the 18 months I have been here I have worked at site A for 11 days and the rest of the time has been at site B.
Is my employer obliged by law to pay me for travelling from my home to site B and back home again?

I'm not an expert, but can say a definite 'no' to your question. The time taken to get to site B from home is irrelevant. But there is a question you should be asking. I am not sure what this question is, yet, so have some questions for you, first.
1. How far is site 'A' from your home?
2. What is the travel time to site A?
3. How far is site 'B' from your home?
4. What is the travel time to site B?
5. What is the travel time between site A and site B?
You have a question to ask ONLY if (the answer to) 4>2. In that case, the question is 'Is my employer obliged by law to pay me for the extra time (over the time it would take me to get to site A) travelling home to B and back home again? (or possibly the extra time travelling from site A to site B if this is a shorter period of time).Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

I believe the guidance states that you can be paid for mileage provided your temporary place of work is further away than your permanent base & also at last time of looking it you can only claim it as a temporary place of work for 24 months.Dwy galon, un dyhead,

which affects mainly people who do not have a fixed office, such as care workers and builders.
if you are simply based at one site but it is in your contract that you might need to work at a second site, then you would not be included. you are not a mobile worker, you technically have a fixed workplace.CCCC #33: £42/£240
