Can't sign in to Gov site for tax return

I am also experiencing GOV.UK identity verification problems.
I have held and successfully used a gov gateway login for as long as they allowed self-assessment online. Indeed, I can still view all my HMRC SA related details and SA submitted forms. So I can see my name, NI number, address, tel #, email, bank details, DOB, taxable income (earned, savings, dividend, rental etc), tax (both cg and income), and all the history thereof (plus other stuff that doesn't spring to mind): basically the ins and outs of myy financial life and identity.
But, even when logged in, I am unable to see my NICs record, without them wanting to get me verified.
What possible point could there really be in that? It's not like a criminal would benefit more from seeing my NICs record than seeing all that other stuff. People here will happily tell you how many qualifying years they have and what gaps they have, but just try getting them to tell you their NI number. Have we got it all wrong? Is our nics contribution record worthy of more secrecy than our payment details and DOB????
Moreover, should we really be relying on Experian (massively hacked) to prove who we are? It is all so reminiscent of Barclays giving away Kaspersky Internet Security to "secure" its customers transactions. Now it turns out, Russia is our "strategic enemy" : oops!
And why do these verifications simply ask me my postal address before declaring me of unverified identity? I think I know better than experian where I live thanks. Indeed, seeing as I barely use any credit, my guess is they know sweet FA about me.
Gawd does that simple life I see on "Life Below Zero" look more attractive by the minute.0 -
Is anyone worried about this insidious intervention into their personal affairs in order to carry out regular tax enquiries?0

Fairly sure the answer for November1 to the question 'which card did you take out in 2014?' would None0
