Applying for lots of jobs, not getting interviews, am I just too old?

erm, what is a DV please?
Anyone who has served their country, or worked in certain posts would know what a DV is. The OP is of the age where he could have served for a few years.
Some have to have one to carry out their duties, plenty don't. But when it comes to getting a job when you leave (especially defence work related), they are like Willie Wonkas gold ticket.
Suffice to say, in demand now and beyond. If you don't know what one is then not to worry. But holding one would have guaranteed the OP work until he retired.0 -

I'm two years older than the OP and have never heard of a DV - care to enlighten us?0 -

Anyone who has one, looking for work. Take a look at any of the security cleared jobs websites - kerching!0

IS that what it meant?!
Probably shouldn't have cherry picked the (mainly) nouns!
I've no idea, but if it did then I'm not sure how the OP is supposed to just 'get' one given that it requires extensive interviews with security officers and questioning of the applicants family members, plus drug testing.0 -
If the OP is the same age as me, he has had 41 years to "get one". Do you lot really need taking by the hand, and shown how to do everything?0

I have many years of experience, including working as a freelance bookkeeper for a few years before this job.
Can I ask why going back to freelance bookkeeping isn't attractive? Also contracting in some speciality might be a good fit, letting you pick your jobs and working hours.
Sounds like it would be worth getting a second opinion on your CV. I thought mine was okay but a friend pointed out some howlers.0 -

Apparently so, do please tell us how to go about getting DV yourself. My only experience of it is that the employer undertakes it, so if the OP has never worked in an environment that requires it then they won't have one. And I'm doubtful if DV obtained by one employer would be made available to another anyway (possibly it might across government organisations).0 -
Are you applying for jobs through agencies or directly with the companies?
When I was job searching I had all sorts of agencies promising me the world and delivering nothing, whilst I was applying for jobs directly with companies and a steady supply of interviews coming through that way!0
