Wheelie bins - council or house property?

Evening guys,

We are in the process of buying a house. The owner has stated they are taking wheelie bins with them. We thought the bins were council property - does anyone know?

Thanks

We had this too, they are owner property apparently. Consequently we will be taking our grey bin with us from the old house (they're £50+ apparently!). I phoned the council (Lisburn & Castlereagh) and they said we could have the other recycling bins for free if we collect, or £10 if they have to deliver. We'll just pay the tenner and leave the old ones at the old house.

Depends on the local council. Manchester Council definitely own this latest round of stupidly small grey (general waste) bins, they've labelled them with house numbers and barcodes, and are marked as "property of MCC".

Yeah, I've moved 4 times since the first grey bin came out. I always take mine with me. Seems to be the norm
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p
  • Never taken ours in 3 moves over the past 10 years, and always found them at the new property.

If you "let them take it", at least you'll turn up at your new house without a manky old bin being left full of cr4p. You'll be able to turn up with your own brand new one you bought... much nicer.

They belong to the council here and replaced for free when needed

We'd love to take our own but we sold months ago and considered it to be part of the house.

I do see that you can get new ones for a somewhat nominal charge but it is a bit of a pain!

We are in Ards and Down Council - may call them tomorrow for definite clarification. Their website caters for loss of theft - no mention of needing to buy them because someone has taken them with the sale.

According to their website, the recycling ones are free, you pay for the waste ones

Ask your buyer if their bring their bins. If they are then you can take yours

I was surprised when I moved here and the previous owner turned up to collect her bins as the house she had moved into had none :rotfl:

I am with ABC council .They charge £22 for a replacement bin .

    MOVING HOUSE?

If you have just moved into the area you will need both a green and blue 240L bin. These can be purchased from the Council as outlined in the link above. If you are moving into a brand new build property (with first time occupation), the green bin will be provided free if you can collect it from our Depot. If you need us to deliver it to your home you will be charged a delivery fee.

The blue and green bins are yours, not the property of the house and therefore you may take these with you when you move. The brown bin however is allocated to the property and must stay when you move .
