Job panic

Hi there,

I am currently in the process of being background checked and I'm incredibly worried!

I have worked for my current employer (company A) for almost 10 years. Around a year ago I applied for a job with a new employer (company B) and went through an extensive selection process in March 2016. Company B came back to me and said that although I had done well, they weren't processing my application any further but that was to do with the job, not me, however they might offer me the job in the future. So I continued working with company A.

Then in May 2016 I was offered a job with company C. I wanted a new challenge so accepted the job. I started work with company C in June 2016 and on my first day I suspected I had made a big mistake. The company was failing, badly. However I thought I'll give them a chance. On my 4th day with company C I met a regional manager for the first time. A few minutes into the conversation he was laughing about how he'd been sexually harassing an employee! I couldn't believe this and I knew I couldn't work for this company.

I contacted company A right away and told my old manager. He allowed me to return the next working day and so I resigned from company C and went back to company A after being gone for 1 week.

Out of the blue, company B contacted me in November and offered me the job I'd applies for in March! Was invited for a short, informal interview to meet the manager and the job was offered to me the following day! At no point did they ask for an updated copy of my CV and as the interview was brief, it never felt relevant to explain what had happened with company C.

My contact has been signed and everything is in place but I'm currently undergoing a background check. Company A have filled in my reference form but they have insisted on saying that I left for a week. Which is fine, I'm not a liar and I don't want to try to hide anything. However because of the time frame, company B know nothing about what happened at company C!

So, my worry is, will this gap of one week make me look bad? Could this prevent me getting the job? If they ask, do I tell them about me resigning after a week?

Any thoughts or opinions will be appreciated as I'm so worried.

Best regards

Can't see the problem, Company B know you were looking for a job, they left it ages and ages, you took another job with C, didn't work out and you were such a good employee that A had no issues taking you back.

If B ask, just be honest. As an employer and interviewer it wouldn't phase me.

Also as an employer and interviewer I agree with bugslet - wouldn't bother me and the honesty will come over favourably.
