Debt cleared in 2014- now different debt collection agency chasing for same debt?

Hi there,
I hope i've posted in the right section. My husband defaulted on payments for a mobile phone contract back in 2013. Personal circumstances at the time resulted in this, but there was never any dispute of the debt/ amount owed. The mobile phone company in question sold the debt to a debt collection agency, BCW, who we then dealt with. The full amount demanded by the mobile company/ debt collectors (contract was cancelled) over £1100, was paid off via a £50 a week agreement by November 2014.
Fast forward to last week, he recieves a letter from Lowell Portfolio debt collection company demanding a fraction of this sum (c £300) for a mobile phone debt. He rang Lowell Portfolio who have acknowledged that this is the same mobile phone account as the BCW account. We have written proof from BCW that the full amount was paid back in 2014. Obviously we won't be paying again for a debt which has already been paid.

So my question is, what would be the best way to sort this out? The Lowell letter states that a default has already been placed on his credit file in December 2016.

Lowell don't actually care if you owe or not - they just want to scam money off you.

Search here for the "prove it" letter, customise it to your needs and tell them to put-up or shut-up. :)

    Hi,

    Naughty Lowell !!!

Send a letter to them, informing them the debt has already been settled, head your letter "COMPLAINT" in big red letters.

Address it to there compliance officer.

Enclose a copy of the settlement letter from BCW, tell them as far as you are concerned, no debt exists, and you will not be paying any further sums, as far as you are concerned the matter is closed.

As regards the default, tell them that they must remove the default immediately, failure to do so will result in a complaint to the financial ombudsman and the ICO.

Whilst your at it, send a written complaint to BCW as well for selling on a settled debt, threaten them with the FOS as well.
