If your dentist plans to go private, a fair question would be to ask if he/she is going to refund his training costs. Remember we all pay for them to learn, even now.

    Putting it politely - TOSH!!

Dentists already 'refund their training costs', many times over - it's called taxation. They also leave universitiy with 5 yrs of loans to repay (approx 30K?) vs a 'normal' 3 yrs.

I presume you believe that all dentists should be chained to the NHS for ever on whatever contract you deem appropriate.

Presumably following your logic (unless they 'refund you their training costs') all architects are only allowed to work for the local councils; all solicitors only allowed to work for the CPS; all actors/directors are only allowed to work for the BBC; all english graduates are only allowed to work in libraries; etc, etc.

What about all those MPs who trained as solicitors and barristers and now have deserted the country to sit in parliament - has anyone asked them to 'refund you their training costs'?

Try blaming the gov for the hundreds of dentists who are leaving the NHS. Believe it or not the situation is only going to get much worse over the next few years as the gov cuts dental budgets even more (no surprise there then!).

I'm with Denplan and have a check up every six months which includes x-rays once a year.

I've got a couple of fillings and recently had one replaced and did not have to pay extra.

I know in an ideal UK we would have free treatment on the NHS, but I think as the trend is towards private dentistry, the fee I pay (£9.50) is well worth it. You can never underestimate the benefit of healthy teeth!

A lot of people do!!! Did you know that more teeth will be lost due to gum disease than decay.

The 3 most common diseases in the world are
    1. Tooth Decay
    2. The cold
    3. Gum disease
