Perhaps being self employed would suit you better

That's the ticket. Get a non-job as self employed, and just fleece the tax payer.

Plenty of posters do it here, so OP, just ask them how they do it. Guest101 would be glad to I suspect.

    I'm not self-employed?

I'm just saying the OP is upset by employment law and being self-employed pretty much negates that.

Was I to go self-employed I'd earn double what I do now at a minimum. But I prefer some job security

I am in the exact same boat, I just cant believe there are no rights to help people like us... I had great feedback all through my employment of 19 months, never any issues then was told as I was leaving for the day, that I was being dismissed and I would find out why in a letter...

Unless your employers are psychopathic, they wouldn't fire you for no good reason. Why invest 19 months training in someone just to let them go? Either there isn't enough work to go around and you were the last in, or something about you or your performance hasn't been up to it.

Do keep us up to date with what's in the letter - were you off sick much?

growing impact of more !!!!!! employment agencies, zero-contract hours with Sports-direct kind of businesses,

I have to say but I genuinely feel sorry for Mike Ashley (NUFC fan here as well)... They way he has been treated over the last year or so!

Always Sports Direct painted as the villains, when there are thousands of companies employing the same model (often dodgier ones!).

That's the nature of the beast lad. But, whilst you may knock those sort of jobs, gaining employment there may be a temporary solution to your current situation of being out of work...
