The shopping baskets of items used in compiling the various measures of consumer price inflation are reviewed each year.
Some items are taken out of the baskets and some are brought in to make sure the measures are up to date and representative of consumer spending patterns.
In 2018, 15 items have been added to the Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers housing costs (CPIH) basket, 14 items have been removed and 7 have been modified.

Inflation, as measured by the Office for National Statistics' Consumer Prices Index (CPI), was 2.7% in February 2018, down from 3% in January 2018.
Main points- The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers housing costs (CPIH) 12-month inflation rate was 2.5% in February 2018, down from 2.7% in January 2018.
- The largest downward contributions to the change in the rate came from transport and food prices, which rose by less than a year ago.
- Falling prices for accommodation services also had a downward effect.
- Rising prices for footwear produced the largest, partially offsetting, upward contribution.
- The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.7% in February 2018, down from 3.0% in January 2018.

Main points- The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers housing costs (CPIH) 12-month inflation rate was 2.3% in March 2018, down from 2.5% in February 2018.
- Since reaching a recent high of 2.8% towards the end of 2017, the rate has fallen back to its lowest since March 2017.
- The largest downward contribution to the change in the rate between February 2018 and March 2018 came from prices for clothing and footwear rising by less than they did a year ago, with the effect coming mainly from a range of items of womens clothing.
- Price movements for alcoholic drinks and tobacco also made a downward contribution to the change in the rate; this in part reflects changes to the Budget cycle that were introduced in 2017, with tax changes for tobacco being announced in November 2017 instead of March 2018.
- The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.5% in March 2018, down from 2.7% in February 2018.

- Rising prices for motor fuels produced the largest, partially offsetting, upward effect.

- Rising prices for a range of recreational and cultural goods and services, transport services and clothing produced the largest upward contributions to the change in the rate between July and August 2018.
- Partially offsetting downward contributions came from furniture and household goods, and telecommunications; prices for these rose between July and August 2018 but by less than a year ago.
- The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.7% in August 2018, up from 2.5% in July 2018.

- The largest downward contributions to change in the 12-month rate came from falls in petrol prices and across a variety of recreational and cultural goods and services, principally games, toys and hobbies, and cultural services.
- These downward effects were offset by increased tobacco prices and, to a lesser extent, price rises in a variety of other categories, for example, accommodation services and passenger sea transport.

My own energy costs are up by around 16% despite moving supplier.0 -
Depends on your situation, as someone who wants to get a mortgage I’d like interest to stay low for now and then rocket when I get a fixed mortgage!0
