Promo Day Return

Hello All,
I've noticed some 'promo day return' tickets on the greater anglia website. Buying these would reduce the cost of my journey by £3 but I'm wondering how flexible they are. The T&C state this:
"You may not start, break and resume, or end your journey at any intermediate station except to change to/from connecting trains as shown on the ticket(s) or other valid travel itinerary."
Which I assume means I can't get off the train a station early? I sometimes do this with my normal day return as there are several stations close to where I work but not all the trains stop at the nearest, so I just get the quickest train...
But with this ticket, I can't do that - right? I have to go to the station on the ticket? Even if I pass through (or have to change at) another station before it?

You must start your journey at the departure station stated on your ticket.
You must end your journey at the destination station stated on your ticket.
Did I really need to post that?0 -
I understand that I can't go beyond my ticket or take a different route. But why can't I get off early if I want to? That would be me paying for a longer journey than I'm actually taking so why do they care?0

It is in the Ts & Cs of all advance/promo tickets that getting off early is not allowed.0

I know. But why? What difference does it make to them if I get off a train early?
The only reason I can think of is that it minimises the amount of people who take up the offer. But then if they don't want lots of people to buy the tickets then why offer them in the first place?
It just seems daft and a little bit mean...0 -

Because they say so. No use trying to make sense out of TOC rules, you just need to play by them and suck it up.0 -
On the other hand, split ticketing is perfectly legitimate, and equally nonsensical.0
