Is it possible to move to California/USA without lots of money or specialised job?

I would love to move to California in the future, but was wondering if there's anyway of moving there without a lot of money to invest or a specialised job that's in need there? What would I need to move there permanent/long term?

Would you start a business and employ Americans ?

Why would you like to move to California, any particular part? Have you been before?

That would be nice. My goal is to have a successful business, but it's still a long way to go before I could even think of setting up a business in the States. Is that the only other way? How comes British Actors/Musicians/Academics allowed to live there? Usually they're only filming occasionally in the States.

The US isn't an easy country to emigrate to, and you've got no chance of working there legally if you just turn up. If you're a UK citizen you're not even eligible to enter the Green Card Lottery.

Having said that a friend of mine worked there illegally for some years and enjoyed the experience (and let's face it he was hardly the first to tread that path). It wouldn't be for everyone, though obviously.

I've been to California before yes, and it was great. I love the year round great weather, hiking trails, mountains, national parks, ocean, beaches. Much better than dreary old UK :rotfl:The only thing that would concern me is health insurance.

IME they usually have a commercial sponsor of some kind backing them - eg record company or other form of corporate entity, concert promoter, manager/agent, college faculty etc, who have gone through the rigmarole of "proving" to the US authorities that their particular talent, area of research, skill or earning power is beneficial to the
    us.

In the case of one fairly successful touring musician I knew, his artist visa overlooked a lot of things, including an ancient conviction that got him lifted, held and shipped straight back to the UK the very first time he tried to enter the States as a private citizen after concluding his term with a promoter.

You'd need a minimum $100K investment for an entrepreneurship visa.

Academics etc who wish to settle long term in the US would probably do so under the outstanding ability provisions.

Haha, met a Californian woman here. She was working in Boots Opticians. She was married to a British guy, but decided to move here. I asked why she moved here and left Cali, she said she loved it here. I was a bit bemused by that, but it takes all sorts I guess.

    And getting a job.

    And housing.

It's raining in California at the moment, they've had floods. When they've not got floods they've got drought.

Living somewhere is very different to holidays.
