Energy Bill and credit file

Hi,
I received my gas and electric bills after the new year but the letter was dated December 20. I paid paid the bills over the phone last Friday but received the reminder letters last Saturday - a day after paying the bill . Does anyone know if this has crashed my credit rating? I am annoyed with myself because I have kept my sheet clean and even managed to get a mortgage with a high street bank 18 months ago.

Does your provider report to the CRAs?

Nothing is written about credit agencies on the bills.

Check your CRA files. Or your original contract.

Thank you. I have never checked my report before. I registered with Noddle and they put my score at 641. Under the Financial account information section only my credit cards and mortgage providers are listed. Energy company is not listed at all. So I guess I am in the clear. That was an interesting exercise.

Noddle is only one of the CRAs.

Experian and Equifax are more likely to be reported to.

ok - maybe not in the clear then. What is done is done - I can't change it so won't register with any more CRAs. Thanks for your help.

Who is the energy provider? If I was to check any of the free CRA'S for this kind of thing I would check Clearscore (Equifax) as they more than likely report to them as well as Experian. Only a few report to experian alone and hardly any to callcredit (Noddle).

Bearing in mind you only paid the bill just over a week ago this may not show on your report for another 4 weeks. I wouldn't just forget about it especially if you plan to apply for credit any time soon at least you will know if your got a late payment mark or not.

It is SSE. I do not think they report to any CRAs but I will hunt out the contract to check.

They report to experian. May be worth signing up to the MSE credit club (Free). I don't actually use this but it's probably the best way to find out for free but like I said it may not show up for 4 weeks if they even report it as a late payment.

Many thanks ashp for your kind reply. I will check with experian in a couple of months.
